My First Vlog!

My first vlog!!! Welcome to ViR ~ This video is an intro to who I am, what ViR is all about, and how recovery absolutely is possible from eating disorders, substance abuse, self harm, etc. I believe in you recovery warriors and those who struggle with body image issues!

I know this isn’t great quality, I had not even planned a video! I was playing with Photo Booth and thinking about doing a new profile pic, and just clicked on video instead. So this was a first run through, no plan of what I was going to say, on the whim, no editing, and I know now I need to work on these. I hope you enjoy and can at least put a face and real “voice” to me.

Let me know what you think! Should I do more videos?

~ ViR

  1. it’s nice to SEE and HEAR the beauty behind the words!

    and yes, YAY you

    • 🙂 Thank you as always for your support!

  2. This is such a great introduction video, Kendra! I’m so proud of you!!!

    • Yah!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for your support always. I honestly and am truly appreciate of your relationship! LOVE all your vids

  3. This was great! I may have teared up a little. 🙂

  4. It’s great to put a face to your voice. I liked the way you talked about having multiple addictions and how alone you felt in treatment. That was my experience too.

    • Thank you Alison! I think it is truly an important topic, because so many people struggle with MANY issues, whether in addiction, mood disorder, etc.

  5. I love the video! I love seeing the face and voice behind the writing.

    • Thank you Katie! I was freaking out last night. I was going to edit and then thought NO I am going to post as is, first try and then be able to laugh down the line when I get better at them!

  6. Love this! keep going!

    • Thank you so much Nina!!

  7. It was nice to actually see and hear someone other than the usual (my Dr and boyfriend) tell me that things are possible. There are some days where words on the screen just don’t do it, you know? Thank you *hugs*

    • Absolutely Victoria!!! I know we hear it a lot, but it helps to hear from those who have been there to show there is light and hope! Hang in there and keep fighting!

  8. Thank you for sharing this vlog! It’s so nice to actually see you and hear you. I’m a fan and hope you make more vlogs in the future!

    • Thank you so much for the feedback! I will definitely be working on them in the future! I have a lot to learn 🙂

  9. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Thank YOU for all that you do! Beautiful video Kendra, I adore you.

    • Love you too lady!!! Thank YOU 🙂 I wish we could go on a Sunday breakfast again!

  11. You are so cute!! I am very proud of yet another new step in your journey.
    Love you, Mom

    • Thank you Mom!

  12. Such an awesome video Kendra! Thanks for putting yourself out there.

    • Thank you!!!

  13. I love your first vlog! It is really powerful to see you and hear you speak — I teared up, too, several times over what you said about the important of having hope and that recovery is possible and some of the other things you stressed.

It is great to put a face to your writing. I hope you will do more vlogs. I hear they are fun…

I am sorry you had to work so hard to find a place to treat you. In my in-patient and IOP treatments for eating disorders, they accepted people with addictions and other challenges. I didn’t realize there were places that don’t — that doesn’t make sense to me, as most people with an eating disorder also have something else going on in addition.

I am not fully recovered from my eating disorder in the sense that it is hard for me to eat well. I have dietary restrictions (not by choice), which makes it more difficult as they limit the food I can eat. I am 2 1/2 years in recovery from cutting, which is something, I guess. I suffer from depression, as well. I am working on that.

Thank you for your blog. And thank you for your desire to help people with body image and related problems. It helps to know I am not alone, even though I often feel very alone and isolated.

    Thank you.

    • Thank you so much Sarah for your support and comment. We are NEVER alone 🙂 Never ever ever give up fighting for YOUR life. xx

  14. Thank you for sharing your voice. AND reminding all of us that we have a voice too!

    • Absolutely I think the most important thing! To find and share our authentic voice!

  15. Hey Kendra,

this is awesome. It’s great to actually get to “meet” you in a way, and to literally hear your voice. I also think it’s very courageous to put your face and your voice out there and say this is who I am, and this is what I do, and I find it tremendously inspiring. Thank you.

    • Thank you so much Christina! 🙂

  16. Thank you, Kendra. Some of the best videos and blogs are those spontaneous ones that come from the heart. This was certainly was from the heart!

Thank you for “putting yourself out there.” I’m very proud of you, and proud of the message that you are sending to others who are journeying with you along this path of recovery. In fact, I’m going to send this to a client of mine now for whom I’m sure you will be an inspiration.

Thank you! Thank you! Send you lots of hugs and love for the new year! Cheers!

    • Thank you so much for your support Karen. I truly love your voice! I am so glad you are going to pass it on!!! Hugs to the New Year! Look forward to connecting more 🙂

  17. I love it Kendra! I think it shows even more how much you do believe in who you are and what you do by not having a script. \
In the midst of big time struggling, you do give hope to me and I know to a lot of others out there.

Thank you for everything you do!

  18. I LOVE IT. And I love you. I’m requesting LOTS more vlogs please! Thanks for being such a great friend and support. Keep up the GREAT work. ♥

    • YAH!!!!! I am so glad! Because I love ramblings 🙂 Will work on the editing a tad.

  19. I absolutely loved this! Every single word that you said is so true. Recovery IS so sooooooooo worth it.

Last night, for the first time in YEARS I laughed so hard that my stomach and cheeks started to hurt. I NEVER experienced that when I was ill. Nothing is ever funny when you’re sick like that. That was definitely a turning point 😛

Can’t wait to see more vids of you, Kendra!!

  20. “I allow myself to feel” is probably one of the most important things I have learned. You’re an amazing voice and I am so thankful that you are giving voice to what so many of us, not matter our vice, have gone through. Keep up the amazing work.

  21. How beautiful are you? Very! Inside and out. I love your voice, both written and spoken. Rock on girlfriend!

And by the way, it’s so not crap 😉

    • Yah!!!! Thank you so much for your support. I truly love your blog, your voice, your honesty. I am truly grateful for all the wonderful people I have met on twitter/fb

  22. That was very brave of you! 🙂 awesomely done! And you are beautiful!!

  23. I love it! As I struggle in recovery lately your voice (written and now spoken) is frequently the push I need for that day! Thanks for all you do!!

    • Thank you so much Joy! I know motivation is so important for those in recovery and am glad to be able to be a voice that gives you a push!

  24. I love it! Especially because it was spontaneous and unrehearsed. We got to see and hear the real, from the heart, Kendra. Do more vlogs! Do more!

  25. Great to meet you! It is always a pleasure to read your words, and GREAT to hear your VOICE!!

  34. Wow… your honesty and caring touches me! So yes, do go on. This is what inspires and spurs us on. Lovely peers like you, sharing from their life, without holding back because they simply want to help and give precious support.

I am in my mid-thirties and on recovery from AN. I have managed to gain both weight and psychological skills. The journey is not yet over – I wonder if it will never truly be – and I look for encouragement here on the Net since I don’t know anyone suffering from AN in my entourage.

  35. Great to “see” you again, Kendra. I encourage you to keep this up.
